Jerry Lewis' Kids

This year on the Jerry Lewis Telethon, Jerry spoke about how he remembers "his" kids from the telethon who have died. He mentioned Scotty Smith, etc. But what about his own personal loss? What about Joseph, his youngest son, who died of a drug overdose last year? Jerry was disappointed when his last child with Patty, his first wife, turned out to be a boy. He had an audience in his failing TV show sing, "Think Pink," a song from Broadway.

Jerry's son, Gary, of Gary Lewis and the Playboys ("This Diamond Ring"), who is in his sixties, denounced his father, Jerry, for being mean, cruel and neglectful when dealing with his sons, especially Joseph. Gary also took a blood test to see if he and a woman who came forward, claiming she was Jerry Lewis' daughter, were blood related. She is. I guess the Playboys didn't make the telethon this year.

I will say the death of Joseph Lewis was -- in my opinion -- hushed up. Jerry pulled strings. I think with Jerry it's out of sight, out of mind. Let someone else clean up the mess. He views his first marriage as a mistake. What can he do? His first wife resides in a nursing home with dementia. She's a few years older than he is.

Comments:
Gary Lewis did not take a blood test. He and his sister took a DNA test, the results of which overwhelming. Patti Lewis has not been diagnosed with Dementia, and she does not live in a nursing home. Jerry Lewis has never said his first marriage was a mistake.

Thank you, Anonymous. I meant a DNA test. I'm a member of the John F. Kennedy research community. We just call it a blood test sometimes. Actually, I call it a blood test sometimes, not them.

Where did I read that Patti Lewis was in a nursing home, diagnosed with dementia. It's possible I read this on the Huffington Post or TMZ. I like when people tell me how it really is. Jerry never said it...but in so many words. I'm a Jerryphile. He was the first entertainer I was conscious of, as my parents took me to his movies. I can remember on the Mike Douglas Show his ranting about if his wife dances with another man she can get herself a new husband. I mean, come on, that marriage was a train wreck. I think he wanted a Jewish wife. When he curses on TV, it's usually "Jesus Christ," stuff like that. Now I don't know who you are and that's fine, but I will skirt around and try to find where these stories originate. The only reason I write about Jerry is because I love him, even if I had a fat ass with a swatstika on it.

  4. It's inexcusable to bring children into the world and not protect them, nuture and guide through life to the best of your ability. It's not their choice they were born. This seems especially ugly when you have someone of great means a vast resources as Jerry Lewis. He maybe one of the most celebrated comedians of all time but he's a failure of a man and human being.

    1. I knew one of Jerry's real sons and he told me how troubled Joseph was as a teen!!!! He would hang up the phone sometimes because he could hear Joseph yelling and I believe breaking things! He, himself, was disappointed in the type of father Jerry was and couldn't believe the moving van Jerry had come to take whatever he wanted from the house after he had left the family. Jerry may have wanted a Jewish wife but he married Patti and had 6 kids but wanted to raise one Jewish and Patti could raise the others Catholic which does sound like he should have married Jewish woman but he must have loved her at some point as they were pretty young when they married. His son told me he played mental games with his sons where money was concerned, He would decide to drop them from gas credit cards for example but not tell them like a control freak and there was always the question as to why he put so much into MD. Did he possibly have an out of wedlock chikd who had it?

  7. If there is another human being anymore self obsessed than Jerry Lewis, I pray I never meet that person. What Dean and Jerry did to their wives was horrible, adding the insecurity they were raised with. I can see the men, finding another woman and completely writing off their families, because after all, Who else matters? If I had a call telling me to drive to the airport a ticket to Las Vegas would be waiting for me and I would be given $20,000 to interview Jerry Lewis for just 30 minutes, I would not just say No, but Hell No. And what's the deal with Jews cussing by saying "Jesus Christ"? Seinfeld has the insensitive habit also.

    1. Whoops words dropped- What Jerry did (in leaving his family) added greatly to the insecurity his boys felt because of the uncaring way they were raised. Lewis was ust a very ugly human being

  8. Actually, Joe's wife wanted his death to remain private, so that both she and her young son could grieve privately amongst her family. They are very private people. She didn't even want Jerry to know of his death, because of how he disowned him in the past. He did not die alone as all the tabloid papers had stated. He died of an accidental overdose of his prescribed medicines. He didn't commit suicide like Jerry tells everyone. His brother, Anthony, and his ex-wife, Kim, were told what happened and they put their own spin it for whatever reason. Joe had his problems, but he was working through them and had been for awhile. He loved his wife and his son very much, in which, they miss him everyday. As for Patty, she has Alzheimer's and is in a private assisted living facility, the last time I asked about her. I'm tired of seeing and hearing things that aren't true about Joe. He is missed everyday by so many of us that loved him and shared our lives with him.

  10. a death of a child no matter what age should remain very private. its disrespectful to put your own spin on what happened. i think Jerry has been apart from his first wife and children so long he probably has no feelings for them. when i first learned he married his second wife, all i felt was disgust. where was his loyalty? anyway i'm not a fan of Jerry Lewis. maybe i had an insite there.
